Sean Penn should join the crew of Mike Farrell's "Artists United to Win Without War" with Jane Fonda and leave Earth in the "RED", shag-carpeted spaceship of love - from Hanoi Jane's epic, Barbarella.

De-ja vu The letter, following this introduction, was printed in the Kelowna Daily Courier, and faxed to newspapers and TV stations all over North America in January 4. 1991.
The world is once more in a similar situation, and I would like, with your help, to reach and talk with celebrities eyeball to eyeball who have a sincere desire to promote peace in the world, but besides saying no to war, have no idea what to do. Please share this letter in any way that would promote this objective. Sincerely Gunther Ostermann Kelowna, BC. Canada .(250) 765 8726 gco@shaw.ca . Here is the letter as it appeared in the newspaper on January 4.1991.
An open letter to George Bush, James Baker, Brian Mulroney, Joe Clark, John Major and all those who are ready to sacrifice somebody elses life for freedom and democracy.
How ironic, in the midst of the Christmas season, church masses and endless prayer for peace, you as heads of Christian nations, are preparing for bloodshed at the same time. Granted, Iraq has invaded Kuwait, and Saddam Hussein maybe all the things that are ascribed to him, and yes, many lives have been lost because of his action. But, what youre now contemplating and endorsing is premeditated murder-suicide on a grand scale. But you are not about to risk your own lives, do you? The same applies for Saddam Hussein as well, who threatening to bomb Tel Aviv. Why is there such enmity between nations? A possible carnage may cost more than 100 000 lives, and two to three times that number of various cripples, not to forget the psychological trauma which will haunt them a lifetime. And what about the victims of the civilian population and children without a voice, who would be maimed and killed? Are they any different than an ordinary Canadian, American or other human being? Theyre only differently brainwashed. What about the war-casualties families, who will be deprived of a father or mother the rest of their lives? What about the added damage that would be done to our fragile planet? In no way do I condone Saddam Husseins action: but neither do I favour your approach. As long as freedom is measured with a bank account, and youre having millions of people in poverty and miseries in your own countries, the battle cry for freedom and democracy sounds rather hypocritical. If you really care, there is a way to solve the Mid-East crisis, and there is a way to achieve peace. In my letter to Javier Perez de Cuellar, who is prepared to go to the moon for answers, I offered to speak about solutions to the United Nations. I proposed to conduct a style of meeting, never before attempted in the political arena of the world. It would address the whys and it would be a humbling experience for most every one, to evaluate of who we really are, and what life on earth could be and must be, if we as human beings want to survive as a species. My letter remained unanswered. As the situation is now, there could be a war, or at best, a postponement of different miseries to come. I may only be a layman, without name, fame and fortune, but may I offer you one more option? Please let me speak to the United Nations and Saddam Hussein. Perhaps a different perspective could help prevent a lot of grief and miseries. On Behalf of a better world for ALL of us. Gunther Ostermann Kelowna, BC. Canada

Hi Mr. Belafonte,
I have always loved your music, but since I saw you at Larry King's (with your comments to the Colin Powell - Uncle Tom thing), I admire you also for your humanity and your corageous attitudes.
Best regards form Germany and go on like that!!

Dear Mr. Belafont:
We know you are a living musical legend. I did not know that you are so incredibly brave. I believe that your recent, candid remarks created a political tailspin and are a catalyst for enormous and wonderful changes in the entire world!
Sincerely,
Mary

What is name of the anthology album you recently produced? Its cost? Store availability? Thanx. I attended your show in Minneapolis in '57 or '58 shortly after the release of your Mark Twain album. And most recently your appearance in Thousand Oaks this last October.

Harry, Please crawl back into your hole. You are a much better entertainer than statesman. I just saw a short blurb on CNN where you chastize U"S"A polices and kiss up to Colin Powell for your very unwelcome slave remarks. Wait, on second thought, I laughed my ass off watching you squirm, keep it up! LOL! sincerly,

Belafonte is stuck in the 50s and should be ashamed of his comments regarding Collin Powell whose contributions to the US far outweigh anything Harry will contribute. Stick to calypso Harry.

Talk about the "House Nigger" calling the kettle black. Making your fortune tap dancin' fo the man. What a minstrel show Belafonte has run. Emigre to America, he is just another racist hater of people with whom he disagrees.
